The most rewarding way to save a life is to foster a dog, and we have a team of experienced volunteers to help you
along the way.

A great way to start fostering is “temp fostering.” When a foster goes on vacation, they will post a description of their dog and the coverage dates needed. You can choose which dog and which dates would be a good fit for you – there are no permanent responsibilities.
After some experience, you may want to become a “perm foster.” This carries more responsibility because you choose the dog you’d like to save, and then foster them through adoption. HAL will share the info we have about a dog before it arrives in your home, but surprises do happen. Being able to work through training and medical challenges is a part of fostering, and you will always have the HAL support system to help.
The length of fostering time before adoption can vary greatly, from a week, to several months. Some dogs may need more time because of their age, behavior issues, or medical condition…or just because they haven’t found their best match yet.
No matter how you choose to foster, all food, supplies, and vet care are provided for you.
